Rutherford CA: The Perfect Wine Country Escape at Rancho Caymus

Rutherford CA: The Perfect Wine Country Escape at Rancho Caymus

The town of Rutherford rests in the heart of the Napa Valley, right between Oakville and St. Helena. With only two hotels that claim Rutherford’s zip code, your choices are quite limited, meaning your chances of reserving a room during high season at Rancho Caymus Inn will not be an easy task – so check it out early! The Rancho Caymus Inn was acquired by new owners in 2016 and underwent a complete renovation, reopening in June 2017 to rave reviews, which I must say, they were RIGHT! The rooms all include:  wood fired gas heaters, private patios, a spacious sitting area and gorgeous bathrooms decked out in white marble! The Inn has a total southwest, Native American, Spanish vibe – exposed beams, leather furnishings, gorgeous beds, with classic white linens and adorable printed accent pillows. The rooms are complete with a mini fridge to store any leftovers from dinner, coffee maker with delicious local coffee producers and an adorable pouch of locally sourced toiletries in the bathrooms!

My favorite part was probably the complimentary continental breakfast which included the all too famous Model Bakery English Muffins, but they took continental one step further and offer breakfast sandwiches with egg and bacon, or order that ala cart and pile your plate high with delicious locally sources pastries, fruit and of course, gourmet cheese, because no breakfast is complete in Napa Valley without cheese and charcuterie! The best thing about staying in Rutherford at Rancho Caymus Inn, it’s setting is just so serene….we loved it and my husband wants to go back to Rancho Caymus Inn asap!

Of course no scene around of Napa Valley would be complete without some sage advice on where to wine taste when you’re staying at Rancho Caymus Inn. Some of my favorite local Rutherford Wineries that I chose to visit for this piece, Frog’s Leap Winery just down the street from Rancho Caymus, this spot is not hidden and VERY well known. They produce some of the most delicious wines you can find in wine country; Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, to name a few….it’s one of those places that reminds you of what Napa was built on for many visitors…they have the most gorgeous grounds to frolick in and explore, sit outside or inside one of their many private rooms….however the best spot is on the porch overlooking It all! It is a MUST when visiting Napa Valley in general!

My other favorite locations to visit in the Rutherford area, Honig Vineyards & Winery and Round Pond Estate. They are literally across the street from each other and only a half mile from Rancho Caymus, so while I suggest UBER or a private driver for anyone getting around, you could technically walk to both….however it isn’t my suggestion to do so! Honig Vineyards makes some fantastic estate Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, focusing on the varietals Napa is most famous for! The hospitality provided at Honig Is like visiting with old friends, they are sweet and generous with their time and offer very informative tours and tastings. If you are looking to pair food with your wine experience, Round Pond is the winery for just that. One of my favorite experiences EVER is their Brunch which I think is a Wine Club exclusive experience, meaning you need to be a member FIRST before you can book the experience, however I could be wrong, but this garden tour via estate chef, make your own vinaigrette, 6 course wine paired lunch and barrel tasting thing, is WELL WORTH IT!

Of course we expect you to still be hungry after all of this, so make sure to make reservations at one of the 2 restaurants that also call Rutherford home, The Rutherford Grill and or Auberge Du Soleil. Rutherford Grill is definitely the more casual option of the two, so if you’re thinking a day of wine tasting may not include a fancy multi course dinner, go ahead and book Rutherford Grill. On the contrary if you are game for amazing views and multiple courses, or a more casual yet still very fancy dinner on their bar terrace, Auberge Du Soleil will be the ticket! I was engaged at Auberge and it is a VERY special place, so if you’re planning a special getaway to celebrate anything, it is a great place to do just that….oh and they have an EPIC brunch on Sundays! Make sure to check out all of these awesome places to visit in Rutherford and don’t forget to tell them where you found them !
