Cliff Family Winery: Rise & Wine Breakfast Inspired Food & Wine Pairing
The Napa Valley is full of amazing wines, that is fact. The hospitality experience can sometimes be the difference for one wineries success to the next, not just the epic wines they produce...I know so sad that its not ALL about wine. As a local and wine industry professional it took me and the rest of the valley a WHILE to realize this, and additionally a little hit to all of our egos...what, they don't want to come and just drink wine, without a bread stick and no gorgeous views? I know what a weird concept right? (So much sarcasm - so hopefully y’all have picked up on that if you read my blog regularly).
As someone who works full time in wine, the experience of wine tasting and the different tasting options offered has really shifted in the last 5-7 years. The customers spoke and the wineries listened. In this instance I was invited in April to visit Clif Family Winery for a breakfast inspired wine pairing. They call this epic experience “Rise and Wine,” which is very fitting since they only offer it at 10:30 am each day! Clif Family Winery is located in St. Helena right on Hwy 29 (the main artery of Napa Valley). It’s uber convenient for anyone driving through Napa Valley, additionally they offer a private tasting at their Estate on Howell Mountain if you’re looking for a more exclusive way to taste their wines!
I was excited to see what breakfast items they would pair with which wines and be inspired for my own workplace. Clif Family has their own food truck called the Bruschetteria, which is parked right outside their tasting room. It’s absolutely delicious and they offer curbside service, catering, and private lunches at their tasting room and estate !
Below is a peek at what they offered during our visit, of course it’s very seasonal and based upon what is available from their private gardens as well! The first pairing was fresh fruit with Mt. Tam cheese from cowgirl creamery paired with their Sauvignon Blanc (if you know me, I’m a white wine gal and that was my FAV), second course was a delicious homemade biscuit with apricot preserves paired with their Chardonnay (they produce an entire line of accoutrements via Clif Family - part of their wine club when you join, wine and jelly or nuts etc.. so delicious), third course was a soft cooked egg with chili seasoning, almonds and prosciutto (eggs and bacon) and paired so well with the entire selection of reds. The creamyness of the egg and salty prosciutto was perfection with the bright acidity in their reds. I’ll be honest, it’s been a while so I can’t remember ALL the wines we tasted but one that I do remember well, their Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon - so bomb! I was thoroughly impressed with this unique experience and have since referred a lot of friends to check it out, I highly recommend adding it to your list, especially if you’re a foodie ! Thanks so much Clif Family for having us ! Can’t wait to get back up there for some Rose and Bruschetteria ❤️
